Martin Luther King's Niece Takes On Abortion Doctor LeRoy Carhart

By Georgia Kijesky

After posting quotes from an interview with Dr. LeRoy Carhart comparing the murder of late-term abortion Dr. George Tiller to Martin Luther King Jr.and pro-life displays to the Ku Klux Klan, Julia Duin of the Washington Times received this outraged response from Alveda King, niece of the slain civil rights leader.

“For LeRoy Carhart to mention the murder of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., who worked through peaceful and non-violent means, in the same breath with that of George Tiller, whose work ended peace and brought violence to babies in the womb, is offensive beyond belief,” she said. “The analogy is just wrong."

“Dr. Carhart also speaks of hate crimes,” she added. “I would simply ask him, is it not hateful to regard an entire class of people as non-human because they’re unwanted?”

LeRoy Harrison Carhart is a late-term abortionist from Nebraska and friend of the late Dr. George Tiller. He was one of several doctors who traveled to Wichita once every three weeks to help at Dr. Tiller's practice.

The Washington Times reports that in response to the closing of Tiller's abortion mill, he said he would try to continue to provide late-term abortions, though Nebraska law forbids post-viability abortion.
"I completely understand and sympathize with this decision by the Tillers," he said. "I am currently exploring every option to be able to continue to make second- and early-third-trimester abortions available."

In 2005, Carhart killed 19-year old Christin Gilbert during a botched 3rd trimester abortion at George R. Tiller's late-term abortion mill in Wichita, KS. He avoided testifying before a grand jury that investigated the death by dodging a Kansas subpoena. Tiller is currently under suspiscion of having committed illegal late-term abortions.

Carhart is perhaps best known for his rabid defense of the live partial-birth abortion procedure in the Supreme Court cases:
Stenberg v. Carhart and Gonzales v. Carhart,
His grisly testimony coldly describing the brutal deaths of still squirming, partially delivered babies stands as a horrific low- water mark in the moral history of our nation.

Father Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests For Life where Alveda King is Pastoral Associate of the Pro-Life organization, also commented,
“The message of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was that every human being has equal dignity. LeRoy Carhart and every other abortionist violate that message every time they dismember a baby. The comparison is ridiculous.”

Carhart is today promising to return to Kansas to provide late term abortions, location undisclosed.

Randall Terry, founder Operation Rescue, addresses the assassination of George Tiller. Mr. Terry urges the pro-life movement to not surrender words and actions under the heavy opposition from child killers and the Obama administration.
